Deterring Theft: Our ID Kits Being caught with any item that can be linked to a crime is the biggest risk for thieves and those handling stolen property. At the same time the lack of any such link is the biggest hindrance to the police in being able to bring suspected thieves to court. Surveys about crime prevention and detection have consistently shown that over 95% of victims of theft cannot provide the police with any identification of the stolen items that will stand up as evidence in court.Three elements are essential to deter a thief, who will then seek less risky plunder elsewhere. 1. Clear, visible ID is the first line of deterrent. These holographic anti-tamper ID tags come with self-adhesive fixing but once set are very difficult to remove. If they are taken off they leave behind a permanent message. 2. Covert ID which will be difficult to find and remove. The picture above shows a Radio Frequency IDentification (RFID) microchip which complies with the International Standard ISO11784/5 FDXB. This is the only standard for any covert ID which is backed by EU legislation, and Trading Standards offices are compelled by law to have the necessary scanners to detect and read these chips. The chips are about the size of a grain of rice and may be supplied with either an implant syringe or fixing patches. You can insert them into pre-drilled holes or superglue them into obscure places. 3. Registration of identification marks on a secure database for the police. The National Mobile Property Register is approved by the Home Office under the Data Protection Act for use by the police. Registration is FREE for life and you can register any item which belongs to you or your business. You can include serial numbers, microchip numbers and anti-tamper tag numbers and can add photographs to your records. To set up your secure, password-protected account simply log onto http://www.immobilise.com and follow the on-screen instructions. If suspected stolen goods can be identified through the register, this can give the police the evidence they need for a successful prosecution even without the owner needing to be involved.
